There is no denying that travel in 2020 is completely different. Now that resorts and destinations have had time to develop safety measures and precautions to keep travelers safe, more people are ready to get out of the homes they’ve been stuck in for months and do some traveling. And we were more than ready to travel. For the first trip out of the country since January, we headed to Riviera Maya, Mexico.

Upon arrival at Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya, we felt completely safe. All employees wear masks at all times (whether inside or outside), and guests are required to wear them indoors and in common areas. The pool and beach areas are optional for masks, but we still saw several people wearing them.

The level of cleanliness was another thing to note. Things were disinfected regularly and new practices had been put in place to ensure safety. One such practice was the way of ordering drinks in the interior bar. Instead of going right up to the bar, there were six feet of space between you and the bartender, and a server acted as the middleman between the two. the interior bar was set up to make ordering drinks a safe and socially-distanced thing. The tables in the bar were also spread apart to keep each group safe.

Dining at Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya was another safe experience. Here the tables were socially-distanced and servers wore masks at all times. When it came to the buffet, rather than being able to serve yourself food (and thus, touching the same serving utensils as everyone else), employees served the buffet food for you. In my opinion, this made the buffet experience feel more elevated than usual.

We decided to head off-property and try our hand at the Hard Rock Golf Club Riviera Maya. With over 7,000 yards of course that provides the right level of challenge, we had a great time swinging our way through these 18 holes. Golf is already a socially-distanced sport, so not much felt changed here, aside from the masks worn in the pro shop and by employees out on the course. The wildlife on this golf course was quite the sight to see. The variety of animals scurrying and flying around made this golf experience feel like something I could not have anywhere else. The layout of the course allowed for smooth play and only a few lost balls in the thick jungle rough.

I felt very safe experiencing Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya. I would recommend the hotel as a safe way for families to enjoy a peaceful vacation. Though not everything in the hotel is open due to COVID regulations, there is plenty to enjoy in this stunning part of Mexico, and certainly no shortage of food and drinks to indulge in. The beach itself is enough to travel here for, and all the other things that Hard Rock offers is the cherry on top.

Though travel will never be the same due to COVID, it can still be a great experience for people, and a great way to create memories that last a lifetime. So, be safe, wear your mask, and go have fun at Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya.
