The Best Places to Play Golf in the Dominican Republic | TravelAge West

Published on TravelAge West

With 26 stunning golf courses, the Dominican Republic is quickly rising as the top Caribbean destination for a golf trip.

Courses in the Dominican Republic have been making quite the impression on players and have thus found themselves represented as the No. 1 (Punta Espada Golf Club in Punta Cana) and No. 3 (Casa de Campo Resort in La Romana) spots on Golfweek’s top 50 list of golf courses in the Caribbean and Mexico last year.

Designed by the creme de la creme in the golf industry — think hotshot names including Jack Nicklaus, Pete Dye and Rees Jones — courses in the Dominican Republic wow travelers in exciting ways, including design and surroundings.

The following Dominican Republic golf hot spots offer unforgettable memories and golf experiences.

WHERE TO PLAY

Teeth of the Dog at Casa de Campo Resort, La Romana
Teeth of the Dog is considered by many as the top golf course in the Caribbean, so a visit here often comes with a slew of high expectations. Before even stepping foot on the 18-hole course, clients will have heard enough praise about this course to make them wonder if all the fuss is true.

But they’re likely not to be disappointed. With seven holes that boast some seriously great views of the Caribbean Sea — along with a few welcome challenges — it’s hard not to be in awe of the beauty that this course possesses.

Dye Fore at Casa de Campo Resort, La Romana
Though it doesn’t get quite the attention that Teeth of the Dog does, golf course designer Pete Dye’s Dye Fore (also housed on Casa de Campo’s grounds) is a close second for course quality and superb views.

Dye Fore offers players 27 holes of challenging golfing; not to worry, the breathtaking vistas make up for any bad shots. From this course, clients can spot the area’s gorgeous Chavon River; Altos de Chavon, La Romana’s replica 16th-century Mediterranean village; and more.

Punta Espada Golf Club (Cap Cana), Punta Cana
Topping Golfweek’s esteemed list for good reason, Punta Espada Golf Club’s seaside surroundings are nothing short of dramatic and will create a playing experience unlike any other. Jack Nicklaus spared no details in designing this course to be incredibly scenic, too.
